As an entrepreneur it could be challenging at times, especially when you are in a sales slump.  Who can you really turn to so you can get help?  How can you get yourself out of this sales slump?


Lately a lot of my new clients are contracting me because they seem to be in that sales slump, also known as in the rut.  We seem to find ourselves struggling for the rest of the year trying to catch up for the lost sales we had in this slump.   The good news is that we all have been there and I just wanted to let you know that you’re not alone.   The bad news is, most of us don’t know exactly how to snap out of this slump to start making sales.  This is why I decided to dedicate this month blog post with advice on how to get you out of the slump and start selling!


First don’t panic!  If you find yourself in the panic mode you won’t be able to be creative and creativity is exactly what you need right now.  Besides in the panic mode your prospects can sense your desperation.  When prospects sense this they will avoid you like the plague.  Just take some deep breaths, stay calm and focus on what needs to be done.  You got this!


The next thing is don’t get down on yourself.  I am sure this is not the first time you have been in a sales slump.  Just remember that situation and how were you able to climb out of it.  Focus on the positive instead of the negative.  This is just a little bitty tiny set back…you’re on your way to getting to the top!


Remember don’t get angry with yourself.  We are our worst enemy at times.  We can really beat ourselves up and get so angry as to why we got ourselves in this situation.  A lot of times when you are angry with yourself your clients and peers will see you as emotionally out of control.  When you’re in this sales slump you need to be in total control and assure others around you that you know exactly what you are doing.  Try to focus on solutions and options, not on laying blame on yourself or others.


Lastly, don’t quit!  The worst thing you can do during your sales slump is to stop trying.  We all have heard the interviews with the athletes who won the gold medals in the Olympics; they didn’t stop believing that they could do it.  They kept on going do matter what obstacles where in their way.  That is what you need to do.  Keep going!  In my other blogs this month we will address how you can overcome some of these obstacles to get you out of the sales slump.


Being an entrepreneur is like a roller coaster and one of the signs of a great entrepreneur is that we are able to manage our moods through the highs and the lows that we all face.  Every one of us have had those days when we’re “on fire” and the less fun days when it seems like no matter what we do, we can’t seem to get the sale to close.
